Julianne Quirke is an Irish singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and session cellist whose music blends hypnotic folk-infused vocals with rich instrumental arrangements and poignant lyricism. Born in Cork and now based in West Cork, her Irish folk roots run through everything she creates, shaping a sound that is both intimate and expansive.
A mesmerising live performer, Julianne has quickly become one to watch on Ireland's independent music scene. Her emotionally resonant songwriting and captivating stage presence have seen her perform extensively across Ireland, the UK, Europe and the United States, including a 22-date tour of Germany in 2026.
Drawing inspiration from artists such as Joni Mitchell, Feist, Laura Marling and Billie Marten, Julianne's music is rooted in emotional honesty, weaving together themes of love, identity, change and belonging through vivid storytelling and organic arrangements.
Previously releasing music under the artist name Julia-Maria, Julianne's return to her own name marks a significant artistic and personal evolution.
"In creating work that is, at its core, honest and vulnerable, it didn't make sense to be using an artist name anymore. Julia-Maria represented an important time of self-discovery, but I know who I am now."
Alongside her solo career, Julianne has established herself as a sought-after touring cellist and backing vocalist, performing with artists including Ben Howard, Pa Sheehy, The Fynches and How I Became a Wave. These collaborations have taken her across Ireland, Europe and the United States while continuing to shape her own distinctive artistic voice.
Her previous EP, The Skin I'm In, was praised for its vulnerability and lyrical depth, earning support from Irish press and radio while introducing listeners to a songwriter unafraid of emotional complexity.
Julianne is currently preparing to release her debut album, her most personal work to date. Recorded with a live-first philosophy, the record embraces warmth, imperfection and genuine human connection, favouring performances that preserve breath, movement and emotion over perfection.
